Since last post, over a year ago, oh let's see....both working members of my family started new jobs. <div><br></div><div>We moved. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Cash is infinitely more ornery. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Oh, and we had a baby. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Yeah! A baby!!! And what a whirlwind it has been. I'll update about sweet widdlebiddle in another post. Because the only painting I did while pregnant was some signs for the nursery. Did you know pregnancy makes you want to sit and stare for hours on end at nothing while eating only frosted mini wheats for months? Just me???</div><div><br></div><div>Anywho, completely unrelated but the sole purpose of coming back to this blog tonight is because I painted something for a wedding shower for a co-worker coming up. I'm helping with decor so I though this would be a cute sign... And she could take it home. Boom. Double purpose. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuRcIxDW6YkElP6tw6WluvY1VQ4oaxRam28plJAjlfNA1LnSEFPaoExd1ZW3qsnxTpUdlNbh1YVfp8R_YHawQgqxRhsC4obSZfRfYQskwuUz8vXH1cDDTbnoTNyW0PODa5AiflYF6lr3HK/s640/blogger-image-498439260.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuRcIxDW6YkElP6tw6WluvY1VQ4oaxRam28plJAjlfNA1LnSEFPaoExd1ZW3qsnxTpUdlNbh1YVfp8R_YHawQgqxRhsC4obSZfRfYQskwuUz8vXH1cDDTbnoTNyW0PODa5AiflYF6lr3HK/s640/blogger-image-498439260.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Also... Like in two days. </div><div><br></div><div>Which normally I like to give myself 2 weeks on an order. </div><div><br></div><div> (Not because it takes that long but I like having the option of procrastinating for a solid week and a half. It's the college girl still in me, I guess.)</div><div><br></div><div>I was feeling super happy that night and immediately responded OF COURSE! We were at a Lumineers concert, and who can have any worries when surrounded by hipsters, right?</div><div><br></div><div>When I finally got to work, it became obvious all of the wood pieces I had were too small, just woodn't do. (See what I did there?) </div><div><br></div><div>So I used a canvas and think it's adorable. This obviously is a recreate from someone else's design so I take no credit for the creativity, but sometimes it's fun just to do a project without the stress of "what will it look like" hanging over you. </div><div><br></div><div>The texted picture:</div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEVNWE5rKSgh9Q6SVtDAc5uPPj2qpW4Smy2xJopyG-ua24cV0oGG1OD2zQ-9qduEZ5Equ8HB6tv2QnrWgdAwLz6F62BhkRcijMYrPQmkQApNgpTrrFu7jy5L8wUxM6uG9CrJ-Vcw3390kH/s640/blogger-image--813726330.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEVNWE5rKSgh9Q6SVtDAc5uPPj2qpW4Smy2xJopyG-ua24cV0oGG1OD2zQ-9qduEZ5Equ8HB6tv2QnrWgdAwLz6F62BhkRcijMYrPQmkQApNgpTrrFu7jy5L8wUxM6uG9CrJ-Vcw3390kH/s640/blogger-image--813726330.jpg"></a></div><div><br></div>The finished result:<br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLAnHl4bPhVRKMrGdWaaL_57YgEIuobwUCw1QxLtu7mG9OtWmV8LPOkdcdjFww2VoF30vaNNZ34A6LpAo3WJDsfxjNKPXZpbWXHNpnMpqYlgoAPxp5rrg-O4AyivL75xr5SMxC-HH6ryeL/s640/blogger-image--2136097003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLAnHl4bPhVRKMrGdWaaL_57YgEIuobwUCw1QxLtu7mG9OtWmV8LPOkdcdjFww2VoF30vaNNZ34A6LpAo3WJDsfxjNKPXZpbWXHNpnMpqYlgoAPxp5rrg-O4AyivL75xr5SMxC-HH6ryeL/s640/blogger-image--2136097003.jpg"></a></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08863827082954895069noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297095383519564828.post-18697906194913484732013-05-18T16:03:00.001-07:002013-05-19T06:17:36.050-07:00We put the fun in fundraisingI am the worlds worst fundraiser. I hated selling Girl Scout cookies. Loathed the Jr. high band chocolate sale. And all but boycotted the high school prom magazine sale. <br />
<br />
I think it's because I'm cheap. Well, frugal. I hate buying stuff I don't really want. The idea of just trying to ask someone else to do that makes me cringe. <br />
<br />
However, there have been several times in my life where I've had to raise money for various mission trips or for Young Life etc. <br />
<br />
Which is why, when a woman I had made pencils for this past Christmas, asked me how much I would charge to make children's height rulers for a fundraiser for her mission trip this summer.....I told her I would make them for Free!!<br />
<br />
While I'm sad that unless the stars align like crazy, it probably won't be me going on a mission trip anytime soon, it really is amazing to be on the giving side. Giving money, or in the case, helping raise money, to allow others to experience the joy of serving others in another country. <br />
<br />
So....it took awhile to get started. And it didn't help that it rained so much the week I actually decided to paint and stain the wood that it took an extra day because of humidity to dry. <br />
<br />
<br />
But I made a height ruler with pink birds for a girl and blue owls with stained wood for a boy. They turned out adorable and I wish I had taken better pictures. This was a project I'll definitely want to try again! <br />
<br />
Ps with the height rulers and her boy and girls gift basket combined, my friend raised over 2000 dollars!<br />

I'm going to be an aunt! Soon! Like in a month! <br />
<br />
We are so excited to meet baby Cade.... And to celebrate, my sister-in-law's fabulous friend Desiree, aka party hostess extraordinaire, threw the cutest shower I've ever been to. <br />
<br />
The house was full of baby cuteness....blue chevrons everywhere, cake pops, blue punch and she didn't even make us play shower games! ;)<br />
<br />
To top it all off though, Mommy-to-be Allison's favorite drink is Dr. Pepper, so on the glass soda bottles they wrote baby Cade, just what the Dr. Ordered!<br />
<br />
Can't wait until June!! <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUUI78hf7_iQ1ICtELTJhNOMela24ZwpQIwfRQd0-Qu_fj-iwHXIPwQES27e6-7TbYVzMRGYrt-7yNeyXrPZFxTrSmgKNJOKmJdK2EzDK9qDDQeKS3QIFUUJ54gFTgpP9kBVRY2hMZnAbE/s640/blogger-image--384982037.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUUI78hf7_iQ1ICtELTJhNOMela24ZwpQIwfRQd0-Qu_fj-iwHXIPwQES27e6-7TbYVzMRGYrt-7yNeyXrPZFxTrSmgKNJOKmJdK2EzDK9qDDQeKS3QIFUUJ54gFTgpP9kBVRY2hMZnAbE/s640/blogger-image--384982037.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOrqEXLDQF3KzGk8XszolrFqSN9zw3LalfpZeLD-pnanbZU7D3m9dppTCBaPUpti487SpNeqUXVCP0IdU0WfLbI3aE9azXDVCDPVi-c54oNfgK-a6vqf2qQdNEYFidW5STMc0ZIKANn9c4/s640/blogger-image-1158854142.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOrqEXLDQF3KzGk8XszolrFqSN9zw3LalfpZeLD-pnanbZU7D3m9dppTCBaPUpti487SpNeqUXVCP0IdU0WfLbI3aE9azXDVCDPVi-c54oNfgK-a6vqf2qQdNEYFidW5STMc0ZIKANn9c4/s640/blogger-image-1158854142.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOxwHPV2oOzJDirY53ZIu-0NTPLNT5tpg5yQ8Tkg-Cm5_mhDQnV5K8UFZNOK3tve2_lUu25tzfppukC9BbY3ZD1CJJSpYGPBF39fH15340TSYzYBpEa3oVbimz0eonz1KAbbLVPavQipCX/s640/blogger-image-534809239.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOxwHPV2oOzJDirY53ZIu-0NTPLNT5tpg5yQ8Tkg-Cm5_mhDQnV5K8UFZNOK3tve2_lUu25tzfppukC9BbY3ZD1CJJSpYGPBF39fH15340TSYzYBpEa3oVbimz0eonz1KAbbLVPavQipCX/s640/blogger-image-534809239.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLOlSgfLQDjwtPxa2mubRlCQLfyxmEdMF8_c_IwboLFRzzjCKI6bihtQ4abZRyfUNY-gV8S1VKqRq4H3q-TsbB5CPLejBWrLKG_PBXciUjwd1_mQcAO-Y7xp-vPHk280i0wLM5C9LxwC-V/s640/blogger-image-1851358137.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLOlSgfLQDjwtPxa2mubRlCQLfyxmEdMF8_c_IwboLFRzzjCKI6bihtQ4abZRyfUNY-gV8S1VKqRq4H3q-TsbB5CPLejBWrLKG_PBXciUjwd1_mQcAO-Y7xp-vPHk280i0wLM5C9LxwC-V/s640/blogger-image-1851358137.jpg" /></a></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08863827082954895069noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297095383519564828.post-17133309302260232402013-04-17T20:07:00.001-07:002013-04-17T20:08:31.984-07:00More pencilsPencils were a big hit his year. I haven't made any since around Christmas time.... However, a girl that I made one for called last week, and has a friend that wanted one. <br />
<br />
<br />
She only gave color specifications and as far as design, just said "make it look good!" So I went with some standard designs and think they're cute! <br />
<br />
This was also a perfect way to spend a Wednesday night after a stressful day at work. <br />
<br />
Check them out:<br />

<br />
Hello pot. Meet kettle. <br />
<br />
So yes, I've taken a semi-crafting respite this spring. The holiday season burned me out a little. (a lot)<br />
<br />
Completely out of character for me, I let most of the supplies sit, untouched in the craft room, and didn't feel bad about it. <br />
<br />
<br />
But lately art has been calling me back. I carry my sketch book around with me. Painted two pieces for our living room, and have received several orders as of late.<br />
<br />
(Cue song "Back in the New York Groove" to start playing now)<br />
<br />
Sometimes a break can give you exactly what you need. <br />
<br />
Do you need to step away for a bit?<br />
<br />
<br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_J5NC1hF8-gH1dQZUvZYUNVuovMwc9VPFtYEtDQX8iTgFeucdoZ_VavGcTI0sqYkNq9ZmnHYDG3dEM7M6iguMF1t-8TTSx3OVve5BgBI77D8v7ZeEdhwIRsMAdBFD6ovxuPUIj6IeRn8q/s640/blogger-image--1233192289.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_J5NC1hF8-gH1dQZUvZYUNVuovMwc9VPFtYEtDQX8iTgFeucdoZ_VavGcTI0sqYkNq9ZmnHYDG3dEM7M6iguMF1t-8TTSx3OVve5BgBI77D8v7ZeEdhwIRsMAdBFD6ovxuPUIj6IeRn8q/s640/blogger-image--1233192289.jpg" /></a></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08863827082954895069noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297095383519564828.post-38910906474752312532013-03-11T17:00:00.001-07:002013-03-11T17:02:01.599-07:005 a DayEarlier this month, I read a really cool blog about a girl who got rid of five things a day in her house for a month. <br />
<br />
It really got me thinking... Do we have that much stuff we could get rid of?? Turns out the answer is: YES.<br />
<br />
Now, the only rule, a rule that I love, is that anyTHING counts as a thing. So that freed me up to not feel pressure about clearing out whole closets. Basically, I could start small. <br />
<br />
I learned over the five days that most of the stuff that I have that I don't regularly use is for sentimental reasons. Or, the thought that I will "for sure need this someday." <br />
<br />
Turns out those curtains I've saved since my Jr. year of college never got used again. I just liked having them around. <br />
<br />
I learned a lot about myself, such as to start prioritizing what is worth saving and simply begin letting go of attachments to "stuff". <br />
<br />
Here's a sneak peek at some of the things I got rid of.... I'm taking the challenge again this week on spring break, so I'll update again! <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNm6xRHaS6h3heOs7KRcQNDRemzvdi9Jyj74q7w4MsIv6RjEI84Vs4GO67QbcTfDZYHie8aHVjDAaxfqqKFo8CXVL5yQMraa1GMv5JE7lFYW4gdLNYazu4mpTQn_Tw7wyOIHq_u-jSdTa5/s640/blogger-image-895451010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNm6xRHaS6h3heOs7KRcQNDRemzvdi9Jyj74q7w4MsIv6RjEI84Vs4GO67QbcTfDZYHie8aHVjDAaxfqqKFo8CXVL5yQMraa1GMv5JE7lFYW4gdLNYazu4mpTQn_Tw7wyOIHq_u-jSdTa5/s640/blogger-image-895451010.jpg" /></a></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08863827082954895069noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297095383519564828.post-1221933942679429812013-02-17T17:14:00.001-08:002013-02-17T17:16:00.486-08:00Family Name SignsMy sweet friend Laura requested some name signs for herself and friends of theirs. She gave me some samples, but asked that I create some originals. Her only request was that there be some blue coloring somewhere! <br />
<br />
Below are what we came up with. I used some verrry aged wood which looks cool, but was difficult to paint on. The pics don't do the colors justice, but they were really fun to work with!<br />

She chose early on to go with a fiesta theme. From the invitations, to the flowers to the cake, she did a fabulous job pulling it all together. <br />
<br />
You know how those "Mr. and Mrs." signs are all over Pinterest for couples to hold and take a pic with, well I made some for Anne only they said señor and señora! <br />
<br />
<br />
We also made a sign that said "Uncle Kelly, here comes your bride!" for her nephews to carry down the aisle. Long story short, it only got used at the reception, but they looked super cute carrying it in...<br />

<br />
She landed herself a new job and new life in Chicago and we all missed her dearly. <br />
<br />
But wonder of all wonders, their jobs unexpectedly brought them back to Houston!! They wasted no time getting engaged and we all got to celebrate in their wedding festivities with them. <br />
<br />
Sweet Anne had me paint a few things for her wedding which I'll share later, but I surprised her at a shower with a pencil with her new name. <br />
<br />

<br />
Oh my goodness. <br />
<br />
Who knew there were so many talented crafters out there?<br />
<br />
I participated in a party this weekend, sold several signs and took several orders. I have another, much bigger party, coming up next weekend. Which gives me little time in between shows along with my full time job to get ready to have enough items to sell. <br />
<br />
Not a bad problem to have!<br />
<br />
So I spent most of today sawing and sanding at my parents house then painting on my porch in preparation to do some painting this week. <br />
<br />
Here is the awful sight on our porch right now, the smell is even worse! I hope my<br />
neighbors can't smell all the paint.. Although it might keep them from stomping, ha!<br />
<br />

<br />
I've had a bunch of requests for a website to see signs...and I feel completely awkward saying "hey yeah just got to my blog". So I FINALLY created an etsy page <br />

Check it out!<br />

<br />
It was such a special evening for many reasons, the biggest being just how thankful we are for each other and <br />
that God has brought us all into each others lives over the past year. <br />
<br />
Laci's Thanksgiving table was simple but very warm. She said it cost around $60 for decorations, starting from scratch! Not bad for things she can use year after year!<br />
<br />
The table had neutral fabric as the table cloth then was diagonally covered with a layer of burlap. The center piece was made of garlands of fall leaves, candles, and pilgrim and Native American figurines!<br />
<br />
She also personalized mason jars for each of us with our own hand print. <br />
<br />
(Somehow, years ago, thanks to a silly friend and high schoolers I used to work with, the nickname datgurladrie was given to me, as you can see it has stuck around. ;) )<br />
<br />
The feast was perfect and a great way to kick off the holiday season. If you've never done a friends thanksgiving, give it a try... You'll love it! And let me know how it goes!<br />
<br />
Cheers to you and yours!<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr6S0v4HkREmYhrtJQTVkTJiqAVSurf4VGU51AtZZF3uXXSYL5fHxrPOZRc8GPcjMJLy8NKgO-74iqDRmX5uxcTrtDPeuR_JG3JEAbZrIKWcmGt6wQA_quoLSEX1DYeCqZKTUNHzKrdQVJ/s640/blogger-image--2140883779.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr6S0v4HkREmYhrtJQTVkTJiqAVSurf4VGU51AtZZF3uXXSYL5fHxrPOZRc8GPcjMJLy8NKgO-74iqDRmX5uxcTrtDPeuR_JG3JEAbZrIKWcmGt6wQA_quoLSEX1DYeCqZKTUNHzKrdQVJ/s640/blogger-image--2140883779.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidLIue0jFFJam2r0kId1833r88iauOxKUr8fo2BaFBGHEtVoYyOH5WcamvyLVoJOffk6G-ZNTahJ4lIrRmLGKxGUn50jlF8PJlqQxXwm2bxn2i3D_Qqqe0NxmBupoE7TTY6eGccN1ulW01/s640/blogger-image-310852057.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidLIue0jFFJam2r0kId1833r88iauOxKUr8fo2BaFBGHEtVoYyOH5WcamvyLVoJOffk6G-ZNTahJ4lIrRmLGKxGUn50jlF8PJlqQxXwm2bxn2i3D_Qqqe0NxmBupoE7TTY6eGccN1ulW01/s640/blogger-image-310852057.jpg" /></a></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08863827082954895069noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297095383519564828.post-65789227402968614272012-11-17T08:15:00.001-08:002012-11-17T08:33:46.823-08:00Timberwolf market<br />
I was so nervous I almost didn't even take my signs out of the car. "What if it looks bad compared to everyone else's stuff? This is my hobby, why am I sharing it to potentially get judged?" <br />
<br />
These were all the thoughts running through my head Thursday because my school was having a craft fair that I over enthusiastically, weeks before, said I would participate in. <br />
<br />
It's no secret in the past two months because of my job I haven't been able to build and paint as much. So I felt like I needed more inventory. Better items. More time! <br />
However, I worked on a few items this week and filled my little cart with signs I had painted over the past few months and set up shop. <br />
<br />
And you know what? It went GREAT! Many coworkers, some that I know pretty well and some I had only smiled at in passing (our school is really big and I'm pretty new) were so KIND!<br />
<br />
A few signs sold and I took a bunch of custom orders which was so exciting! <br />
<br />
What a fun start to the holiday season.!<br />

<br />
Our first anniversary flew by without much celebration, but in all fairness we were in the middle of leading a high school ski trip and then were heading to a 5 day trip to Disney with the organization he used to work for a few weeks later. So a trip just didn't even hit our radar.<br />
<br />
For the 2 year we began dreaming. Ski trip? Cozumel? A redo of our honeymoon cruise?<br />
<br />
Then one of us said it. I don't remember who, probably Cole he's real smart like that, "What about a new bed?" And that was it. We were smitten with the idea. <br />
<br />
Apparently the 2 year mark is something traditional or modern. <br />
<br />
See? We're traditional and didn't even know it!<br />
<br />
And a bed we got. The biggest, almost the best, and definitely our whole trip budget. <br />
<br />
To be able to afford the amazing tempur pedic, the manly man I live with decided to build us a bed frame. <br />
<br />
He did a fantastic job! <br />

My father in law got in on the building action and then I put him to work helping make some more signs to paint!<br />

Well, my awesome in-laws that's who. They live in the historic section of sweet home College Station (football team ranked #8 in the nation right now!) and have an awesome house filled with amazing antique treasures, some Amazing homemade pieces and my mother in laws quilting company, Bridges Stitches. Have I mentioned I think it's amazing? </div>

<br />
I did three coats of the chalkboard paint, the last one done with a roller. Which from now on I'll just use from the start because it gave it that smooth chalkboard look. <br />
<br />
Voila!<br />
<br />

<br />
Monday was an odd day and I got to leave work for lunch...so I ran to Jason's Deli and then home to let my little hethen out of his cage for some play time.<br />
<br />
As we were walking around, I saw a giant mirror in the dumpster area and promptly went and claimed my treasure! No shame. <br />
<br />
This mirror is seriously heavy and huge. And a perfect excuse to try out my new can of chalkboard paint. It also needs a few nails here and there but overall, is in pretty good condition. <br />
<br />
It has some killz on it in the bottom picture and I'll try out the chalkboard paint tomorrow...wish me luck :)<br />

I've had a lot of ideas swirling around in my head lately of projects to work on, but somehow I blinked and October has flown by!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It has been marked by:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
- lots of work</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
- a dog who has torn up more things than I care to think about...one of them being the thermometer.... which I need right now because I have self-diagnosed myself with the flu...</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
-cooler weather and the excitement of fall! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Anyways.....</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here is a sign for the laundry room I made. I stained the wood, painted lettering and added the hinges for a country effect:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilJyuZERUuf8vwAJBdp4GqN1PbY4FLgU8gvvrBwWv0Vl7r7yoHZ1Du8AdHtKZFZz797Pj97e7kF4LdoO1bOXkDMSxIGTXL8ragIUpvRi1oLM_euG036MYyy8A4ZKwrpahEh7jF__SpIBs_/s1600/laundry1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilJyuZERUuf8vwAJBdp4GqN1PbY4FLgU8gvvrBwWv0Vl7r7yoHZ1Du8AdHtKZFZz797Pj97e7kF4LdoO1bOXkDMSxIGTXL8ragIUpvRi1oLM_euG036MYyy8A4ZKwrpahEh7jF__SpIBs_/s1600/laundry1.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8ggTze0R8C4lTfp-wQqzYuG1J_bAIabLLRik6NGpqhtOsJ_z77EQ9JGPCHM_r2X2rxmn5rdQIxaEayFjTufAxHGEWGzWn6h7bx_RAXEuHm0f36Bs7bjgBd7EDFOSPPnXWRlMM7LbUJVCa/s1600/laundry.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And I made another pencil sign for a sweet friend at my school. It's her first year teaching and she is doing a GREAT job! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<br />
The top drawer pull is replaced with a sparkly glass ball that I love. The side has hooks that match the top, for hanging towels, and there is another level of shelf still to insert. (it's actually sitting on the chair behind the pumpkins!)<br />

Cash heard the camera and came running. He looks so nervous because he is...the pumpkins have for some reason sent him over the edge. Everytime he sees them he barks as if it's a person entering. Silly boy. <br />

The desk from the previous post and a butcher block redo.<br />
<br />
Here is the butcher block, formerly white and in the process of becoming black (and awesome):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm8qb-6qfAxSEnRkUXiE4KyfxT1hDOr3fv7-eBAJFcH450Bt5hRV6L9eOiUzRwkjVs0DTIdpviXbjdYk0r5hjT-2-tEembs-l4XAT3BJt8EjMHIqx3yQYcglQxe4-h9p5G7y6e48FEpLoW/s1600/butcherblock.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm8qb-6qfAxSEnRkUXiE4KyfxT1hDOr3fv7-eBAJFcH450Bt5hRV6L9eOiUzRwkjVs0DTIdpviXbjdYk0r5hjT-2-tEembs-l4XAT3BJt8EjMHIqx3yQYcglQxe4-h9p5G7y6e48FEpLoW/s1600/butcherblock.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
These two projects have become the <a href="http://itknowledgeexchange.techtarget.com/writing-for-business/bane-or-bain-of-my-existence/" target="_blank">bane</a> of my existence. Because, while they present themselves as solid wood, they are thoroughly laminate. And don't believe those cutesy pinterest bloggers who talk about how "easy" it is to paint laminate. It isn't. They lie. And they have really good cameras to make their ridiculous creations look awesome.<br />
<br />
Ok rant over.<br />
<br />
But...I've learned a few things. Feel free to disagree or offer suggestions.<br />
<br />
1. Don't sand the laminate first (unless it's in awful condition). It creates an awful backdrop that no number of layers of killz, primer, paint + primer, will make smoothe again.<br />
<br />
2. Do many layers. 1 at a time. And don't go over what you just painted, unless it's to quickly remove dripping. <br />
<br />
I finally figured this out on the backside of the butcher block and the drawer. But one side of it is a *hot mess.<br />
<br />
(<i>*my husband says I only look at the flaws and that it looks fine</i>.) <br />
<br />
Here is the drawer with it's first quick layer. FIGHT the desire to go over it again until dry.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtzahqsxxvlhr6JTK_XpnlcJc75PUh8pY2gQXJB94plaO_KvlBlkDPpnRgU0IfKLRZVj-bVPDilqW6zsZoVf4Zv0_uFsBQC4K4jCewVPmamWSr2ouMOUzeSwDU4CN_ux4k3SioXz1YvVsY/s1600/drawer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtzahqsxxvlhr6JTK_XpnlcJc75PUh8pY2gQXJB94plaO_KvlBlkDPpnRgU0IfKLRZVj-bVPDilqW6zsZoVf4Zv0_uFsBQC4K4jCewVPmamWSr2ouMOUzeSwDU4CN_ux4k3SioXz1YvVsY/s1600/drawer.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Here it is after several layers. See?? pretty. (drawer is on top)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-ouzqijPp-V9b_MThp-urzAN0BPV246eNgIpxwefKkawqP7EQzt_JiFqDz93jbLT8mdFXaPpJnOBIThRrOZY3Z29F70S96kX520EuDponM9jFTaW-584eIR6ZJRRHeyUOulHQ_cW5U282/s1600/butcherblock2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-ouzqijPp-V9b_MThp-urzAN0BPV246eNgIpxwefKkawqP7EQzt_JiFqDz93jbLT8mdFXaPpJnOBIThRrOZY3Z29F70S96kX520EuDponM9jFTaW-584eIR6ZJRRHeyUOulHQ_cW5U282/s1600/butcherblock2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm heading to get some cute knobs for the drawers/cabinet doors tomorrow and off it will be sent. Will show a final pic when finished.<br />
<br />
Hope we all have a blessed week!<br />
xoxo <br />

Tis true.<br />
<br />
Since the last time I've blogged I've read: <br />
<br />
Bossypants...<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEcfGGfYZATw_eIJPdimG0HUECcdKTC29V01v3LZBuyvXTqfi45aXFHYWTJsMD8ZWVEQ76a2smxWq4nwLOTXh_w_75q6J8tuYDCKVUw1hU2hypSYIn4xzk9JxUvPmf82wM1yrnbSo_HhyphenhyphenS/s1600/desk2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEcfGGfYZATw_eIJPdimG0HUECcdKTC29V01v3LZBuyvXTqfi45aXFHYWTJsMD8ZWVEQ76a2smxWq4nwLOTXh_w_75q6J8tuYDCKVUw1hU2hypSYIn4xzk9JxUvPmf82wM1yrnbSo_HhyphenhyphenS/s200/desk2.jpg" width="150" /></a><br />
<br />
I've graded ~4000 papers<br />
<br />
I've done ~8 loads of laundry<br />
<br />
and worked out ~6 times. (only because my friend Laci is <strike>crazy</strike> awesome and makes me do it)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Also, I've found this little gem at a local goodwillish type store.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy55W93pyY_-sjtp4LedU1YIri0JMgPobgwvCsHCP2Z4ZHXgs34uIF7kDWH6v-t8H8MjVVgAdSouDBVnTptdTKe-brtU0hmu-Z2swKauyCS56GodZ6C-RcGK-Qj8bVuzUAqyyPTzMTNmXP/s1600/desk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy55W93pyY_-sjtp4LedU1YIri0JMgPobgwvCsHCP2Z4ZHXgs34uIF7kDWH6v-t8H8MjVVgAdSouDBVnTptdTKe-brtU0hmu-Z2swKauyCS56GodZ6C-RcGK-Qj8bVuzUAqyyPTzMTNmXP/s320/desk.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
(The best part of this picture is Cash playing with his Homie, (large sized Homer Simpson doll he's OBSESSED with)<br />
<br />
<br />
And here it is after lots of sanding and a coat of killz...just a typical Monday. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR0PriOpQUNp7lpQ-uzY9wHHsnBTrW1p94d02LIT9Te2sotQcjw__4XMhTvBdccQpVb5dljm0Z_8LuBlRBqW0MY9DLsp6J6Wac6WA4euAlUb3SNz4nRKGnMimjAfXZ9Wp9USYmQx2SMgy8/s1600/desk1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR0PriOpQUNp7lpQ-uzY9wHHsnBTrW1p94d02LIT9Te2sotQcjw__4XMhTvBdccQpVb5dljm0Z_8LuBlRBqW0MY9DLsp6J6Wac6WA4euAlUb3SNz4nRKGnMimjAfXZ9Wp9USYmQx2SMgy8/s320/desk1.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
(Please note, this being a significant amount of time after the previous picture was taken, Homie is left to rest in peace and a bone is now the object of affection.)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08863827082954895069noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297095383519564828.post-88689909159914161222012-10-02T17:26:00.000-07:002012-10-02T17:26:10.274-07:00Red LoveFor once I got to pick something up from craigslist and it was not a torrential downpour.<br />
<br />
I spotted a side-drawer type table and thought if it's in decent shape, it'll be awesome. (Sidenote, the couple also gave me a little tv stand, that still needs some tlc, but two for one. whoop! that's a big work in progress though)<br />
<br />
I've sanded and painted a few coats....and think it's adorable... <br />
